The aftermath of the final Chinese- bridge competition for overseas students of Jiangsu University
For the first time ever in the History of Jiangsu University, the Overseas Education College (OEC) under the special leadership of Pro.Jing Gao and her supporting staff, hosted the maiden edition of Chinese Bridge Competition for foreign students in various levels including elementary, intermediate and advance at the premises of the university.
The final stage of the competition was held on May 5th, 2012. At the Staff Recreational Center on campus where eighteen grand finalists intelligently and spectacularly expressed their Chinese language proficiency at various levels on stage. After their personal messages, then follows the questions and answers time which was the most challenging part of the competition to some students and others who handled it with ease, confidence and high level of accuracy. The most exciting part of the competition was the talent show ranging from tales, singing, dancing, Chinese calligraphy, martial art and drama. The judges, audience and even the competitors themselves really had fun during this section and everybody was excited about the various talents being demonstrated by the participants. The Dean was also overwhelmed and elated with her students’ performances and motivated them to always involve themselves in such kind of programs in order to build their confidence in Chinese language proficiency.
The program ended up successfully with Dinah, Mayuko and Nitin emerging the overall winners of the competition in the elementary inter mediate and advance levels respectively.
Although, it is the first time that OEC had organized such a program, the impact was very great and marvelous. Several high profile dignitaries were also present at the program and they were all pleased with it based on their encouraging comments. Being part of the audience, I learnt a lot about Chinese Culture and also had fun with some of the performances. I hope all students would be involved and participate fully in future programs of this caliber to even make it much better as I benefit a lot from this current one. I have been challenged to be part of next year’s edition so why not you being part of this noble course.
Congratulations to all the participants especially the winners, I wish you all the best and hope you are going to use your positions as winners of 2012 Chinese bridge competition to positively influence the life of other students .Indeed, we are proud of you. For those who did not make it, I wish you a better luck next time.
I wish to use this platform to express my appreciation to O E C for such wonderful and unique program, hoping that in the near future a number of related activities would be organized for us. I love you all.
