Shanghai Univesity Held the 3rd Sino-German Symposium

 

The 3rd Sino-German Symposium on Philosophy of Science and Technology was successfully held at Shanghai University, from Monday, September 23 to Tuesday, September 24, 2013.

Hosted by School of Social Sciences of Shanghai University, Philosophy Institute of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Institute of Philosophy of Leibniz University Hannover, this symposium attracted nearly 40 scholars to attend, including 6 foreign scholars respectively from Leibniz University Hannover, University of Magdeburg, University of Bielefeld, FHWien der WKW, and University of Oxford; and around 30 local scholars from universities or institutes like Philosophy Institute of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Institute for the History of Natural Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and School of Social Sciences of Shanghai University.

Xin Ping, Vice President of Shanghai Unviersity, Li Yihai, Director of International Office of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Professor Paul Hoyningen-Huene from Institute of Philosophy of Leibniz University Hannover, gave the welcome addresses on the Opening Ceremony held in September 23. During the 2 days’ symposium, scholars discussed together focusing on topics including general philosophy of science, philosophy of technology, philosophy of quantum mechanics, philosophy of biology, knowledge and action, and philosophy of cognitive science.

The symposium is aimed at enhancing the relationship, dialog and the further possible cooperation among scholars from China, German and the other European countries. It provided an opportunity for the communication among scholars from, not only different countries, but also different generations. The Symposium on Philosophy of Science and Technology gave its first conference at Leibniz University Hannover in December 2011, the second symposium at Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on Oct. 9-12, 2012.
