Pearl S. Buck’s Study Forum Successfully Held


 September 10 saw a successful holding of Pearl S. Buck’s Study Forum. President YUAN Shouqi delivered the opening speech. Then the well-known British writer, Hilary Spurling, gave her speech with the topic---On My Writing of Burying the Bones: Pearl S. Buck in China. The next speaker, Stephen Rachman---former director of the American Studies Program at Michigan State University---made the forum atmosphere reach its climax. His topic was: Pearl S. Buck in the American Literary History. The last speaker was YAO Junwei, professor of English of School of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Nanjing Normal University, who gave the audience a very impressive speech---On Pearl S. Buck’s Dialogicality as Social Activist.

This successfully-held forum was hosted by Ms REN Xiaofei, the Deputy Director of International Office of Jiangsu University. Ms Janet L. Mintzer, President of American Pearl S. Buck International Foundation, Richard G. Neuheisel, President and Co-Founder of the Tempe Sister City organization, Mr QIAN Yongbo, Honorary Chairman of Zhenjiang Famous City’s Culture Research Association and Ms XU Xiaoxia, President of Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck Research Association, also attended this forum.

This activity lasted for three days (from September 9 to 11), which was mainly sponsored by Zhenjiang Municipal Government, with the aim to further utilize Pearl S. Buck’s culture resource and promote international communication and cooperation, therefore motivate internationalization.
