Shanghai Theatre Academy Summer School

When the curtain came down on this year’s Shanghai Theatre Academy Summer School recently, it ended with a traditional Chinese opera program, with the participation of more than 20 students from the US, UK and other countries, for a rousing great success.

The summer school courses cover Chinese opera, Chinese culture and Chinese language, and Chinese opera movements, sleeve routines, and spear and sword routines. At the end of the program, students present their own on-stage performance of traditional Chinese opera at the academy’s White Palace Theatre, as a way to remember their days at the academy with Chinese friends.

In the courses, the students also study scene work to increase their knowledge of Chinese culture and improve their Chinese language skills and they have the opportunity to watch traditional Chinese opera shows.

This was the 4th consecutive year for the Shanghai Theatre to hold its summer school for foreign students interested in Chinese culture, at its Lianhua Rd campus.
