Chinese students present art performance in Russia's Vladivostok

A group of Chinese university student gave a traditional Chinese art performance here Tuesday, as part of the celebrations on the 10th anniversary of the founding of the first Confucius Institute.

Over 200 spectators were delighted by the Chinese music performed with traditional string instruments such as pipa and erhu, solos of Peking opera, folk dances, and traditional and contemporary versions of Tai Chi.

Earlier, the ensemble from Harbin Normal University performed in Ussuriysk, another city in Russia's Far East.

"It's my first time here in Vladivostok. ... We see that the Russian people like Chinese art and music. It makes us perform better and try harder to show the best we can," pipa performer Meng Lu told Xinhua.

The performance tour of the Chinese college students was organized by the Confucius Institute Headquarters, known as Hanban.

To date, China has opened 465 Confucius Institutes in 123 countries and regions. There are also 713 Confucius Classrooms operating in middle and primary schools.
