Best Tips to Deal with Visa for Study in China

 1.  X visa (30 days)
You are supposed to apply for X visa if you are going to stay in China for more than 6 months and you can apply for X visa in Chinese Consulate or Embassy in your home country before entering China, and you are supposed to go through the medical examination in China before you can apply for Residence Permit within 30 days afer your entry.

2.  L visa (30 days)
You are supposed to apply for L visa if you are going to stay in China for no less than 1 month and you can apply for L visa in Chinese Consulate or Embassy in your home country before entering China.

3. F visa (30, 60, 90 or 180 days)
You are supposed to apply for F visa if you are going to stay in China for no more than 6 months and you can apply for F visa in Chinese Consulate or Embassy in your home country before entering China.

We advise you to keep a close eye on the validity of your visa. Here are some tips on how to extend or change your visa to ensure the legality of your stay in China.

For newcomers to China
1. Entering China on an L-visa
After entering China with an L-visa you must change it to a residence permit (student visa) by submitting the following documents to the visa service center:
a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. the Admission Notice provided to you by the China university.

d. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
e. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
f. Certification letter issued to you by International Students Office of the university
g. Receipt of your tuition payment
h. Physical Examination Certificate

2. Entering China on an F-visa
The maximum permitted stay for an F-visa is six months. If you have an F-visa valid for less than 6 months, you may extend it up to 6 months by providing the following:
a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. the Admission Notice provided to you by the university
d. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
e. Registration Form for Temporary Accommodation
f. Certification letter issued to you by International Student Office of the university
g. Receipt of your tuition payment


If you intend to stay more than six months, you will have to change it to a residence permit by submitting the below documents to the visa service center.
a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. the Admission Notice provided to you by the university
d. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
e. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
f. Certification letter issued to you by International Student Office of the university
g. Receipt of your tuition payment
h. Physical Examination Certificate 
 
3. Entering China on an X-visa
An X-visa allows you to stay in China up to 30 days. Prior to the expiration date, you are required to change it to a residence permit. The following documents are needed:
a. a passport style photo
b. the Admission Notice provided to you by the university
c. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
d. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
e. Certification letter issued to you by International Student Office of the university
f. Receipt of your tuition payment
g. Physical Examination Certificate 
 
4. Entering China without a visa
Before the visa expires, you have to change it to a residence permit by submitting the following materials:
a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. the Admission Notice provided to you by the university
d. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
e. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
f. Certification letter issued to you by International Students Office
g. Receipt of your tuition payment
h. Physical Examination Certificate issued 
 
 
For students studying in China
1. Documents needed to extend a residence permit:
a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
d. Certification letter issued to you by International Student Office of the university
e. Receipt of your tuition payment
 
2.  Documents needed to extend an F-visa:

a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. the Admission Notice provided to you by the university
d. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
e. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
f. Certification letter issued to you by International Students Office
g. Receipt of your tuition payment
 
3.  Documents needed to change an F-visa to a residence permit.
a. Your valid and actual passport
b. a passport style photo
c. the Admission Notice provided to you by the university
d. Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 form )
e. Registration Form for Temporary accommodation
f. Certification letter issued to you by International Students Office
g. Receipt of your tuition payment 
h. Physical Examination Certificate issued


P.S.
1. The Admission Notice and JW202(JW201) are available to pick up at the International Students Office
2. If you live on campus, you may obtain a “Registration Form of Temporary accommodation ” at the front desk of the hotel. If you live off-campus, you must take your passport and lease agreement to the local police station and ask for the “Registration Form of Temporary Accommodation ” within 24 hours after arriving in China
3. If you change your address, please follow the chart below to handle it within 3 days so as to avoid any penalty or banishment.
