North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is located in Zhengzhou city, and situated near the Yellow River, which is called the mother river of China. The University was first founded in 1951 and the total area of campus is about 2340 mu. There are over 12,000 full-time students in our university; including postgraduates，undergraduates, and the three-year program students. Water Conservancy and Hydroelectric Power Engineering, Hydraulic Structures Engineering, Hydraulics and Fluvial Power Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources, and Geological Engineering subjects have been identified by both Henan Province and the Water Conservancy Ministry as key subjects. The Hydraulic Structures Laboratory and Material Construction Laboratory are also key laboratories of both Henan Province and the Water Conservancy Ministry. In addition, the university has had the qualification for enrolling overseas students from 1958. This lapsed for the reason of our university’s move. We have begun to enroll overseas students since 2004, and have been qualified to give a separate examination for postgraduate students, and to recommend and receive undergraduate students who apply for the master degree program without completing examinations. The university also holds the right to accept applications for the postgraduate program from candidates with an equivalent education level.

1. Teaching Aims: The university will help to develop overseas students’ technical knowledge and management abilities mainly in the field of Water Conservancy and Electric Power; enhancing their understanding of Chinese culture.
    
2. Enrollment Objectives and level of study:
   • Undergraduate full-time courses: A senior high school diploma is required. The duration of the course is three to five years. Once the course is finished and all exams and dissertation have been completed, the student will receive a diploma and Degree.
     
     
   • Postgraduate full-time courses: A first degree or professional qualification recognized as being equivalent to degree standards and a HND accompanied by substantial experience in an appropriate field is required. The duration of the course is three to three and half years, once the course is finished and all the exams and dissertation have been completed, the student will receive graduate certificate or a Master Degree.
     
     
   • Scholar and exchange students: The duration of the course is one semester or two academic years. Once the course is finished and all the exams have been completed, a student will receive a diploma.

   The university is one of the earliest universities in Henan Province with an independent right to enroll candidates to undertake a Mater’s Degree.
