Making Chinese a Living Language

On 4th April, 2012,the 23 students in Year 10 of Silverdale School learnt a lots of Chinese and moved by Chinese again.

The Chinese assistant who came from the Schools Network (SSAT), made a video from a Chinese television program for his Chinese teaching which moved everyone. He made the subtitles for the video of Liu Wei, one of the Touching China 2012 participants, who is encouraging the Chinese people. The numbers were not showed in the subtitle so that students could practice numbers. That’s the true Chinese and popular program in the whole China. So the students were not only practicing numbers well, but they were also moved by Liu Wei and understood they should learn from Chinese young people. Learning should be by talking and doing in a social context.

Silverdale School Confucius Classroom, the members of the team are in favor of the Chinese function. They tried their best to teach the students what they live. Mr. Robert Neal, the Line Manager of Silverdale School Confucius Classroom, always creates opportunities to use Chinese outside the classroom. He shows the members of the Confucius Classroom Chinese that learning should be kept functional and interesting. Students in his Chinese classes could be required to call the teachers and/or a classmate and speak in Chinese. Of course, the students in his Chinese class have a Chinese name and they should set their name board on the desk in the class. Mr. Robert Neal should greet and talk to the students using the Chinese they have learnt. Chinese hours, visits to him where only Chinese will be spoken, would be encouraged.
