Students of GU Win Awards at the 13th Challenge Cup Competition
The 13th Challenge Cup Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Work Competition closed in Soochow University on Oct. 17. Five pieces of work from GU won two first prizes and three third prizes. Among the participating universities and colleges from Guangdong Province, Guangzhou University (GU) ranked the third, winning the Best Organization Award and National Initiator Qualification of the event, an honor which our university has earned for 8 times successively. GU Vice Party Secretary and Secretary of Inspection Commission Zhang Qiang rooted for our team at the site of the competition.
The prize-winning students are from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Business and School of Life Science. Another two pieces of work from GU earned respectively Bronze Prize of Progressive Innovation and the second prize of Interdisciplinary Innovation, two awards which were given for the first time in this year’s competition.
The "Challenge Cup" is a nationwide competition which was initiated by a number of well-known universities and news media. It is reputed as the "Olympics" of science and technology among Chinese college students, covering the fields of management, social science, energy source subject, etc. In all, over 20,000 pieces of work from 2,000 colleges were enrolled in this year’s competition, of which 1,135 pieces from 440 colleges entered the national final. Over 30 top awards and 70 first prizes were granted this year.
GU has been attaching great importance to the fostering of students’ innovation capabilities through academic and scientific activities and has established an integrated activity system based on the preparations for the “Challenge Cup” competition. Our university has won 41 national awards and 173 provincial awards including one national top award and five first prizes, ranking in a leading position among the universities of similar type provincially and nationally.
