Three HEU Students in Top 10 of the Second Round of Oceanaut Selection for Submersible Jiaolong
The list of the top 10 candidates for the second round of oceanaut selection for submersible Jiaolong was recently announced. We are proud to see three HEU students’ names appear on the list. They are Chen Yunsai (Ph.D. Student), Zhang Yi (postgraduate, ship and marine engineering major) and Xia Yu (postgraduate, information and communication engineering major). Zhang Yi is one of the three remaining female candidates. In the end six candidates will win the final selection and become oceanauts, among which two places are reserved for China’s first female oceanauts.
24 students from HEU matched the selection criteria and joined the preliminary candidates. They were from 10 majors including ship and marine engineering, control engineering and information and communication engineering. After many days of strict assessment, three HEU students survived to the next round. The National Oceanic Administration oceanaut selection group is expected to announce the final list of six qualified candidates by the end of November. HEU wishes the best for Chen Yunsai, Zhang Yi and Xia Yu. At present, the first three Chinese oceanauts have been Fu Wentao, Tang Jialing and Ye Cong, the last two being HEU graduates from 2007 and 2001 respectively.
