CITCM Organised Cultural Workshops at Ernest Bevin College

Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) organised twenty-four large-scale cultural workshops at Ernest Bevin College (EBC) on 30th July for its Summer Induction Camp, 2013. The students at EBC Confucius Institute enjoyed the refreshing approach to learning about Chinese culture.

Ernest Bevin College is a boys school in the Tooting area of London. Mandarin has been taught there for 5 years, and EBC became a Confucius Classroom affiliated with CITCM in April 2012. CITCM has organised many Mandarin and cultural experience events at EBC, which have been popular among teachers and students.

On 30th July, EBC students participated in various cultural workshops including Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting, dance, martial arts and Mandarin. CITCM teachers and volunteer teachers not only carefully prepared the contents for workshop presentation and interaction but also designed different activities to engage the students and allow them to have hands-on experience and immersion of features of Chinese culture. The students enjoyed the variety of activities, including writing their names in Chinese with a writing brush, participating in the elegant tea ceremony, practising spinning the handkerchief and demonstrating the Taiji and the long fist they had learned. These happy moments would be the highlights of the students’ summer time.

When the day’s events concluded, EBC expressed their appreciation to CITCM and hoped the CITCM team would visit EBC again to bring more opportunities for the students to learn about Chinese culture.
