Trip to Nanjing

Our trip to Nanjing for a gathering of foreign students from Jiangsu province started early as we had to leave Jiangsu University at 6.30am. We all were still a bit sleepy in the bus but this faded away as soon as we reached Nanjing. Our first stop was the Nanjing Art College where we took some pictures and then we proceeded on foot to Shi Tou Cheng Park where the dragon boat races and gathering were going to be held. As soon as we reached the park, we could feel the excitement in the air. Despite it being still early, there were already quite a lot of people moving around. It was a great sight to see so many foreigners and Chinese people mingling together and interacting with each other.

There were booths installed along walkways and the first ones offered an insight into Chinese culture and artwork. We all marveled at the beautiful handicrafts and then moved on to see the dragon boat races. The first race we saw was unevenly matched as it pitched a well prepared team against teams made up of untrained persons but we appreciated the effort they all put in the race. We then moved on to some other booths where people were showing the specialties, both gastronomic and cultural, of their respective countries to the crowd. It was very interesting to share each others’ cultures and traditions.

We were then drawn by the sound of music and soon reached the stage where dancing and singing were going on. It was amazing to see the talent of so many young people and to see the diversity in music, dancing and singing the world has to offer. The show went on till early afternoon and when it was over, we all had a quick visit to Xuanwu Lake Park since we still had some time.

Our trip back was uneventful and we reached Jiangsu University tired but satisfied with our trip.
