Chinese Culture Day
On April 13, 2012, Zespół Szkół Technicznych, Dąbrowa Górnicza, was in an atmosphere of festival, with different colorful posters about Chinese Culture Day made by students themselves everywhere at the school. The Chinese Culture Day is held in spring every year at the school, and this is the 4th Chinese Culture Day. Confucius Institute at Adam Mickiewicz University gives lectures for three years, and Confucius Classroom at Vistula University gave lecture for the first time. Prof. Wu Lan, Chinese scholar working at Silesia University also gave lecture this year.
Chinese Culture Day was on in the bright and spacious gym of the school. At 10 am, the long-prepared Chinese Culture Day celebration began. More than 140 students from the technical school and from the high school around applauded for the Chinese friends. Mr. Tadeusz Prochownik, school principal, and Ms Anna Cieślik and Ms Monika Małagowska, English teachers and organizers of Chinese Culture Days, made welcome speeches for Chinese friends, and gave words of introduction about the event.

Before the lectures, films about the previous lectures by Confucius Institute at Adam Mickiewicz University in the past three years made by ZST students and ZST students’ presentation by K. Zobek and R. Smutek, about their visiting China for 2011 Summer Camp organized by Confucius Institute at Adam Mickiewicz University, were shown to all on the screen.
The first program for Chinese Culture Day was Chinese painting arts lecture by Prof. Wu Lan, who once graduated from Polish language college of Warsaw University, now working as translator and lecturer sent by Chinese Ministry of Education. She gave systematical introduction about mountains and rivers painting, characters painting, water color painting and elaborate style realistic painting, through which students at present had a preliminary understanding of Chinese traditional painting.
Mr. Yang Jianhua, Chinese director of Confucius Institute at Adam Mickiewicz University, gave a brief introduction to the origin and Chinese year of dragon and legend of Chinese dragon, and made a comparison of dragons between China and other countries, Poland included. Mr. Yang also made agreement with all the teachers and students at present about the meeting again in the next year of dragon in 2036.
And the lecture was followed by another lecture by Miss Kamila Wiatr about Chinese calligraphy, which gave the students knowledge about Chinese calligraphy.
Mr. Li Qikun, Chinese director of Confucius Classroom at Vistula University gave a lecture on Peking Opera, Chinese traditional art. Mr. Li was the prize winner of the National Peking Opera Competition by China Central TV. He gave basic introduction about different schools, playing and facial make-ups of Peking Opera, and played Peking Opera for all the participants, for most of whom this was the first time to touch Peking Opera art, and they were attracted by the mysterious Chinese art.
Mr. Yang Fan, Wushu teacher in Warsaw, who illustrated the profound meaning of Wushu, and gave demonstration with professional actions. Mr. Yang Fan once learned Wushu from renown masters of North and South China Wushu, and once worked as the actor and designer of actions in Kong-fu movies. He demonstrated Taiji, Wingschun, and sword, rod and double sticks in Wushu for 2011Chinese Culture Day, which gave students the first chance to touch closely Chinese Wushu. This time, he demonstrated double sticks, whip and drunker’s Wushu, and invited students to play interactively at the stage, which made the event more active.
Mr Bogdan Śmieja and Mr. Jerzy Suchoszek, the president of the board of directors of Dąbrowa Górnicza Fabryka Maszyn Elektrycznych DAMEL S.A. were present at the Chinese Culture Day as well as local education authorities Ms Jolanta Wójcik and Ms Agnieszka Warchala.
This year’s Chinese Culture Day is the biggest and richest one among all the Chinese Culture Days at the school. It is believed that there will be better and better Chinese Culture Days at the school, and Confucius Institute at Adam Mickiewicz University will provide much better lectures for the future Chinese Culture Days.
