Foreign Students for IMBA Outnumber Chinese Students in Tsinghua University

China business colleges strive to attract more foreign students to promote school quality.

In line with other fields, Chinese higher education has developed as an international program. A series of Chinese universities desire to enroll more foreign students studying IMBA program.

Among them, MIT-Tsinghua international program is the leading one. This program is a cooperation program between Tsinghua University Economics and Management School and MIT Sloan School set up in 1997. In 2012, this program aims to enroll more foreign students with over fifty percent proportion.

To people’s surprise, the number of foreign student increases this year, but the total number of students of IMBA decreases. Therefore, domestic and overseas students structure changes.

The director of IMBA program Mao donghui said:” we reduce the total number of students and increase the number of foreign students at the same time to facilitate the overall quality of IMBA program.”

"We hope these measures can enrich culture exchange and resource of IMBA program, for the number of teachers and courses is unchanged.”

Shi yanting, 26-year old, a student of Tsinghua University grade 2011 studying IMBA, said that the increase of overseas students is good for promoting the attraction and significance of international programs. IMBA differ from common MBA for its multiple cultures. What’s more, debating with overseas students with different cultural background is helpful for students’ horizon.

On the other hand, the Chinese characteristic of IMBA program is a great glamour of foreign students.

"We could use China unique position in the world and it’s different from other overseas MBA schools” said Qian yinyi, the president of Tsinghua University Economics and Management school.

"Based on the rapid development of China’s domestic market, Tsinghua aims to cultivate future leaders of business field with international view and china insight.”

Since 2008, Tsinghua University makes great efforts to reform the curriculum and pays more attention to professional ethics and leadership. “All efforts are made to sinicize program” said Qian yinyi.

The analysis of this program is based on practical experience of Chinese industries. Introducing real business field students is essential for fascinating overseas students.

This program also encourages IMBA students take active part in extracurricular exchange activities.
