Bright Future for Foreign Students in Shanghai

According to “the twelfth five-year” plan of international education project published by the Education Committee of Shanghai, Shanghai will be built as the most attractive city for foreign student studying in China in next three years with over seventy thousand students. At the same time, Shanghai government devotes to exploring new education system, expanding education scale and supporting teachers and students training abroad through multi-channel.
 
 
In line with the plan, there are about four hundred Sino-foreign cooperative organizations and projects until 2012. Therefore, Shanghai government strives to promote the cooperative education quality, including the construction of Shanghai New York University. Meanwhile, the government encourages universities to create good education environment to draw foreign students’ interest. And attract a series of overseas universities and colleges (including high vocational college) to set up independent higher education organization cooperating with Shanghai government. Besides, cooperation between high quality senior high schools and overseas education institutes is also approved. They can establish one or two independent setting Sino-foreign cooperative senior high schools.  
    
 
Based on the statistics, there were forty-seven thousand seven hundred foreign students studying in Shanghai in 2011. With the beginning of “the twelfth five-year plan”, the government attempts to enlarge foreign students’ number and optimize education structure. To 2015, fifty thousand long-term foreign students studying to get education certificate will come to Shanghai. In 2020, among six hundred thousand undergraduates, the foreign students occupy fifteen percent.(suri)
