Confucius Institute at University of Zimbabwe Celebrates the 5th Anniversary

Confucius Institute at University of Zimbabwe celebrated its 5th Anniversary at the University Auditorium on the evening of November 16, 2012. Over 800 people, including the faculty members of Zimbabwe University, teachers and students of Confucius Institute/Classroom, diplomats from the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, representatives of Chinese enterprises in Zimbabwe and local Chinese people, were present at the celebration.

Madam Xu Lin, Director-General of Hanban, and Prof. Chen Yulu, President of Renmin University of China, as the Chinese partner of CI at the University of Zimbabwe, also sent their congratulatory letters to the celebration.

Over the past 5 years, the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe has made marvelous achievements. Today, 1 CI and 5 Confucius Classrooms are in operation (the Confucius Classroom at the Chinoyee Institute of Technology will be put into operation in January next year), educating nearly 2,000 students on the Chinese language. The Chorus of CI at the University of Zimbabwe is famous in and out of the country. To produce bigger influence, the CI at the University of Zimbabwe has launched its second 5-year plan for 2012-2016 and is determined to develop into one of the leading Confucius Institutes in Africa.
