SMU Celebrated Prof. Chen Shaogang's 100th Birthday Grandly

On December 25th, the 100th birthday ceremony of Prof. Chen Shaogang, an alumnus from Wusong Merchant Marine College (old name for Shanghai Maritime University), was held grandly at Shanghai. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU as well as more than 20 other alumni from Wusong Merchant Marine College attended the ceremony.
 
Born in 1913, Prof. Chen Shaogang graduated from Wusong Merchant Marine College in 1937. Then he worked chronologically as fourth engineer, second engineer, and chief engineer at the China Merchants Group. He also has worked as a professor at Wusong Merchant Marine College. After the founding of New China, he worked as an engineer at Shanghai Shipping Administration. He organized the Designing Department at Shanghai Ship Building and Repairing Plant and held the position of Chief Engineer in the 1950's. Prof. Chen then worked successively as Assistant Chief Engineer then the first Chief Engineer at Shanghai Ship Design and Research Center which was built in 1964. After his retirement in 1983, Prof. Chen Shaogang was appointed as the technical consultant of Shanghai Ship Design and Research Center. Prof. Chen has showed us a brilliant life with determination and persistence. He has trained numerous professionals in marine engineering management and ship design and devoted all his efforts to the country's shipping and ship industry.
