The Speech of Vice chairman of Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, students,

  Good morning.

After a long time of preparation, we are very happy to see the very first Sino-US electronic field trip program held today.

On behalf of Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the following organizations: Liberty Science Center in New Jersey, the USA, Jiangsu Metrological Bureau, Jiangsu Metrological society, Jiangsu Communication Society, Jiangsu International Science and Technology Cooperation Center, China Jiangsu Website, Nanjing Science and Technology Museum, Nanjing University , to name just a few.

I’d like to pay particular thanks to the experts from the American Liberty Science Center.

Jiangsu as a relatively well-developed region in China raised the concept for the first time in China that before 2015 Jiangsu province will realize the basic industrial modernization.

We have raised many proposals and made up many plans, but I think among all our goals of modernization, the very key issue is the modernization of human beings.

People’s scientific knowledge actually is a very important part of the modernization of human being.

According to a survey conducted by in Chinese as well as Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, in Jiangsu province the ratio of people’s scientific knowledge actually rank higher than other provinces in China, but comparing to that in foreign countries, we are still left behind.

Therefore we have to pay more attention to further upgrade the scientific knowledge of the citizens in Jiangsu province. Considering today’s field trip program, I recall the remark of Mr. Deng Xiaoping, who said that when we conduct educational cause, we should have a vision to face the world, to face the future and to face the modernization.

Recently, we have conducted a variety of activities, such as Scientific Cafe, co-hosted by our association with the British science association, and another activity called “Science Interpreter”, co-hosted by our association with European association. That program caters to the need of scientists.

This field trip program, I think, under the support of various experts, teachers and students, will definitely become a very good activity. At last, I wish this program a big success. Thank you!
