Foreign Students in Jiangsu University Participated in the Fire Drill

In the early hours of Friday, November 9, 2012, before 8: 00 am, saw the presence of the Dean, Prof. Gao Jing, the Vice Dean, Mr Charles, the programme coordinator, Miss Wang and other staff of OEC including Miss Tang at the premises of Overseas Apartment. They moved from door to door to encourage students to come out and participate fully in the Fire Drill. The students were very enthusiastic about the exercise and cooperated fully with all directions.
At exactly 8: 00 am, every student was ready with his/her soaked towel as directed by the personnel of the Fire Drill for the evacuation techniques. After some few minutes, a thick smoke was induced to cover the whole building. It was a very great spectacular scene. The siren was immediately sounded, followed by an announcement asking students to stay calm and follow directives from the Special Fire Aids.
The students then descended down the staircase cautiously with the towels covering their noses, as they moved through the thick smoke till finally they came out of the building.  It was a very charged atmosphere with a lot of people outside the building including personnel from the Zhenjiang Fire Service, Teachers, Students and Media Men.
After the evacuation techniques, the competitive activities such as Extinguisher usage, Water hose relay, and the use of fire mask and clothes were also performed. The gathering defied the presence of the unfriendly weather (small rain drops) at that time. The activities were keenly contested by the various schools and colleges in the University.
Representing the OEC were Caleb Kesse Firempong, Patriacia Ghann, Bernard Bortey, Leonard Bortey, Michael Adusei, Christopher Kenyan Daddieh and Osei Boateng Isaac. In the spirit of the Fire Drill, these students were very excellent on the day, and their efforts were rewarded in the cloth wearing section.  In addition, the OEC as host and organising college were appreciated with an award for an excellent work done.
Appiah Evenary, one student from 2009 BBA, did the English translation, which showed a lot of OEC and our foreign students.
In the view of these successes, the OEC wishes to thank all students who participated in the Fire Drill and also special salute for all contestants for making themselves available for the competition. We hope that the ABC’s of curtailing fire outbreak at any point in our lives were fully realised on that day.
