Engineering and Materials Science of Jiangsu University Ranks Top 1 Among Universities

According to the latest data released by ESIEssential Science Indicators, Jiangsu University’s two disciplines (research fields) Engineering and Materials Science rank among the top 1% of ESI International Discipline Ranking of universities and scientific research institutions. This is the first time Jiangsu University’s disciplines rank among the top 1% of ESI discipline ranking. It shows that Jiangsu University has made a breakthrough in achieving its goal of growing into an open, teaching and research-oriented high-quality comprehensive university with multidisciplinary harmony, promoting its strong engineering disciplines, with some being first-rate in China and influential all over the world.
Statistics shows that Jiangsu University has published 551 SCI papers in the field of engineering, each being cited 2.9 times on average. Of the 1,230 scientific research institutes that rank among the top 1% according to their total cites, Jiangsu University stands the 543rd. Jiangsu University has published 3,854 papers about the 22 disciplines evaluated by ESI, and the average cites of each paper is 3,27. Of the 4,936 research institutes whose citation ranks among the top 1%, the total citation frequencies of Jiangsu University’s papers stand 2,040, and ranks among 0.41% of all the institutes in the world. These data show that Jiangsu University has made outstanding achievements in its construction of disciplines in recent years.
ESI is a tool developed by Institute of Scientific Information to assess the achievements of scientific research and to follow up the developmental trend of science. The data acquisition of this indicators bank is based on a bank which includes more than 10 million entries of documents from 10,500 SCI and SSCI academic journals in the world. And the band contains the documents of the latest ten years. The data bank is classified into 22 academic fields.
ESI makes a statistical analysis and sequencing of the 22 disciplines from the perspectives of nation, research institution, journal, paper and scientist. Because the data bank covers all the disciplines, countries and has great academic influence, the journals included in the bank are regarded as international mainstream journals and international mainstream science. Currently, this data bank is widely used by the academic community to evaluate the achievements of scientific research and to follow up the developmental trend of science. In China, many influential universities have begun to use the statistical results of ESI to judge their own ability in academic research in the world.
