Confucius China Study Plan offers scholarships for Int’l students to study at XMU
The Confucius Institute Headquarters recently launched their “Confucius China Study Plan”. The plan consists of six subprograms, which include the “Sino-foreign Joint PhD Subprogram” and “PhD in China Subprogram”. The majority of financial support for the project is provided via the support of specific research and other projects on designated academic areas of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The “Sino-foreign Joint PhD Subprogram” and “PhD in China Subprogram” will be the first two subprograms carried out in 2013. The Headquarters will provide each approved candidate with a subsidy of up to 200,000 RMB per year, which may include research funds, tutoring fees for the foreign and Chinese tutors, tuition, lodging and living expenses, round-trip international transportation, etc. Xiamen University is one of the 14 Chinese host universities (others include Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Wuhan University and Zhongshan University, etc.) which have been designated by the Headquarters.
The applicants for the new plan are required to be current PhD students from overseas universities or preeminent postgraduate students, who are proficient in Chinese, and should have a recommendation from a Confucius Institute. Xiamen University currently has 15 Confucius Institutes set up around the world. Applicants can contact them or other Confucius Institutes to get recommendation letters in their host countries.
Applicants are required to log on to http://ccsp.chinese.cn/ to fill in the Application Form and upload the required documents before December 16th, 2012. Those who want to pursue PhD degrees at XMU should choose XMU as their host institution.
The applications will initially go through XMU’s qualification examination and then be forwarded to the Confucius China Study Plan Expert Committee for appraisal. Admission results will be announced by the Headquarters no later than the spring of 2013. The first batch of candidates will start their programs from autumn 2013. Detailed information about the Plan and Confucius Institutes is available on the website of the XMU Admissions Office: http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn.
