TU Students Obtain Brilliant Results at 13th National College Students Swimming Championships

 
The 13th National College Students Swimming Championships kicked off on November 24, 2013. The Tianjin University (TU) swimming team won four gold medals and four silver medals, including the gold medal for the 4 x 100-meter medley relay, the most important award in competition.
 
 
The TU swimming team entered 23 events in the competition, advancing to the finals in 17 of those events. With guidance of swimming coach Liu Tiegang, the TU team secured four gold  and four silver medals, including gold medals in the following events: men's 100-meter butterfly (group A), men's 4 x 100 meter medley relay (group A), women’s 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke (group C); and silver medals in the following events: men's 50-meter butterfly (group A), men's 50-meter, 100-meter, and 200-meter breaststroke. Student Liu Tong won the championship in the men's 100-meter butterfly (group A), with his result exceeding the national level of master athletes and being ranked in the top eight among  professional national swimmers. Also, he is the only individual to reach the standards of master national athletes in this competition. In the final and main event, the men's 4 x 100 meter medley relay, the TU team consisting of students Liu Tong, Zhang Zhibo, Zhou Tianshu, and Luo Hang, won the gold medal, which is the first time for TU to achieve this honor in the group event.
 
The 13th National College Students Swimming Championships was held in the city of Qingdao from November 20 to 24. The competition was divided into A, B, and C groups. The participants included professional swimmers, students with sports talent, and amateurs. The entries of the competition numbered 606, representing 61 universities and colleges in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, reaching a record high.  In addition, over 80 professional swimmers from group B participated in the competition of group A. This competition was hosted by the Federation of University Sports of China, and organized by Tongji University and the Swimming Branch of Federation University Sports, with Qingdao Sports Bureau and Qingdao Municipal Education Bureau as co-organizers.
