Dragon Boat Competition in Suzhou

 
On the 11th of June 2013, Jiangsu university OEC dragon boat team set out for Suzhou to compete in the Jiangsu Provincial Dragon boat competition. 19 well recognized international teams competed in this annual event. Upon arrival in Suzhou, after checking in into the hotel, the team was dispatched to the Jinji Lake to train and draw up a team strategy deemed to make them one of the best in Jiangsu Province. They worked out how to balance the boat according to body weight of the various team members with varying weights. After two trials, the team was able to cover a 300-meter distance in 1 minute within 28s in practice.
 
After practice on that the day Ms Wang gave a brief introduction of the rules and regulations of the competition and how they were going to be grouped accordingly. Our team was in group B which comprised of 6 teams in total and had of 3 professional teams.
 
On June 12th Jiangsu University team prepared themselves for the competition which started at 9:10am in the morning. The Jiangsu University team managed to pull through into 5th position in the first race of group B. The next race in which we were ranked in group C saw a change in our squad and let everyone with equal abilities have a feeling of the competition. In this race the team came out in 2nd place making the overall ranking of our team No. 14th out of the 19 teams. They were awarded a trophy of merit for their participation and second place achievement in group C.
 
Mr. Zou and CSC scholarship students also came to support and cheer the OEC dragon boat team. After the competition, OEC also guide all members to have a visit at a world famous Suzhou Garden-----the Humble Garden, letting all students have a brief idea of Chinese garden architecture.
