Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a national key university directly under the administration of Ministry of Education of P. R. China, and is among the first Universities joining the national “211 Project” and “985 Project”, initiated by the Central Government of China which aim at building some China high-ranking universities to be the world first-class universities.

HUST is located in Wuhan in the Central part of China. With an area of over 1,153 acres with picturesque environment and 72% greenery coverage at the foot of Yujia Mountain and beside the East Lake, HUST has been honored as the “University in the Forest”.

HUST was founded on May 26, 2000 as a result of the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology (founded in 1952 as Huazhong Institute of Technology (HIT) and Known as China's MIT), Tongji Medical University (founded in 1907 by a German Doctor Paulun Erich and Known as China's best Prefered Medical University) and Wuhan Urban Construction Institute (founded in 1952). The university has gained the rapidest development among universities of China in the past 60 years and has been hailed as “the epitome of the development of China’s higher education”.

HUST has groups of distinguished research faculty and teaching staff. 900 of the more than 3000 teachers are professors, and 1200 are associate professors. The number of current enrolled students is around 60, 000, of which more than 34,000 are undergraduate students, 19, 000 are graduate students.

HUST has entered into partnerships with more than 100 renowned universities and research institutions. Annually over 1,500 famous scholars and experts come to visit HUST and give lectures. At present, more than 2,000 international students from 120 countries are studying at HUST.
