SBS Thai Students Celebrate Traditional Dragon Boat Festival
SBS Thai students get a taste of zongzi, traditional sticky rice dumplings for the festival, on May 26.
Thai students at the Shanghai Business School (SBS) joined their Chinese classmates in celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival, a day of remembrance for the poet Qu Yuan, on May 29.
The party started with the Thais singing a beautiful folk song, followed by an explanation of the roots of the festival and a chance to taste some authentic zongzi. The celebration continued with more cultural activities, for example, teaching the students how to tie Chinese knots for getting more cultural experiences.
At the conclusion, one participant said, “I had a great time here trying the zongzi and catching up in talks with my Chinese friends. It was awesome.”
There were 39 Thais, in all, from its Mahasarakham University, who had just finished a three-month exchange program at SBS and were preparing to leave the next day.
