First Chinese Karaoke Competition Kicked off in Hokkaido

As the epilogue to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations, the first Chinese karaoke competition was held in Sapporo on Feb. 9th. The competition was sponsored by the Confucius Institute of Sapporo University, including a total of 26 contestants and about 400 spectators.

At the beginning of the concert, Zhang Weixiong, the president of the Confucius Institute of Sapporo University gave a speech. He mentioned that holding the competition right at the Chinese Lunar New Year was particularly meaningful, for it provided a platform to spread out Chinese culture and enhance the communication between China and Japan.

Later, Aoki Masanori, president of the Hokkaido Japan-China Friendship Association, shared his wonderful experience of visiting Beijing in early February, and expressed his cordial greetings and best wishes to the development of China-Japan friendship.

In the competition, contestant Tsuhikoto sang "The Spring in Northern Country" with passion, which drew the most applause from the audience and thus won the championship. Young as he was, Tsuhikoto achieved the target of driving voice with emotion, expressing emotion through voice, and unifying voice and emotion, and most importantly, his unique understanding of the song outpaced his age. "Music is a universal language without boundary; The songs performed in the competition highlight the longstanding traditions of our two countries, and create an opportunity for both sides," he said during the acceptance speech.

In addition, the Confucius Institute of Sapporo University held an exhibition of Chinese culture outside the stadium, which was received with great success.
