Chinese Corner: Universally “Big Family”

To be friendly and kind to our school’s overseas students in aspect of their academic and life, the international department of School of Teacher and Education host the Chinese Corner at 2:00pm on Saturday, 25th of May. This event attracted some students from various countries to get close to Chinese traditional culture.

First, we taught Babur from Uzbekistan and Sonal from Fiji to play Wuzi chess, a traditional chess that they had never known before. Then here came two boys from Thailand, one of them with nickname “Good”. Via talking, we knew that his grandfather was Chinese and he also had a Chinese name—Yang Laihao, which meant “blessed with good”. They both loved painting, so we instructed them how to hold Chinese painting brush and then how to paint. They mastered some basic skills to paint with our effort and corporation, they finished a painting of a fierce dragon, and we exchanged what we drew as present to each other.

Through this event, we improved our friendship with overseas students at our school in culture and wisdom aspect. At the same time, both Chinese students and overseas students has sharpened their communication skill by way of talking and interacting. In addition, we got to know some foreign counties’ conventions and even the essence of their culture, which broadened our vision as well.
