2014 Fall Freshmen Orientation Events in The IBS Union

The IBS Union held three events for the orientation which included the Meet and Greet New Student Orientation, the Campus Tour, and the Outdoor Program at the beautiful Yuanmingyuan. These events were designed to be a platform to allow new students to get to know one another and their new environment.

The Meet and Greet was held on September 4, 2014, at 7:00 pm, at the Multimedia Room of the IBS Building. New students, along with the IBSUnion, Acting Dean, Dr. Liu Peng, office staff, and university faculty were invited to attend. A little different from previous years, this year’s orientation limited the presentation time to allow new students to mingle with professors and each other. The IBSUnion prepared snacks and drinks for the event.

On September 6, 2014, the IBSUnion organized a campus tour with the help of Chinese IBS Students. Students gathered in front of the IBS Building and were divided into six groups. Each union member was responsible for one group. The tour started at the West Campus and ended at the East Campus. Each tour was personalized by the Board Member heading the tour.

The last of the orientation activities was the Outdoor Program held on September 13, 2014, at Yuanmingyuan. Once again the big group of new students were divided into teams. Each team was given an opportunity to make their team cheers and team names. The new students came up with: the Green Machines, Red Devils, Yellow Nuts, Purple Business, Blue Sharks, and the Pink Panthers. Games were designed to be fun and exciting, but also bring out the competitiveness of all of the teams to bring team members closer together. Games included a big maze, tug of war, newspaper folding, hula hoop passing, and much more. At the end of all the games, the winner was the Green Machine team. Most students expressed that they had a great experience at the Old Summer Palace.
