111 Ghanaian Students Get Chinese Government Scholarships

 
On August 27th, 2013, as many as 111 Ghanaian students have been granted Chinese government scholarships in the 2013-2014 academic year, twice as many as last year, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Gong Jianzhong said here Tuesday.
 
"As an important part of bilateral relations, China has all along attached great importance to the China-Ghana cooperation in the field of education and strongly supported the development of human resources and personnel training in Ghana," Gong said at a reception in his residence.
According to the embassy, 549 Ghanaian students have been awarded with Chinese government scholarships since 1998, and 1500 trainees have been sponsored by the Chinese government in the last five years. As traditional friendship grows, China has become one of the most popular destinations for Ghanaian youth to study abroad.

"It is our firm commitment that this scholarship will go a long way to affect our lives, families and Ghana at large. And we pledge our firm commitment to endearing ourselves to our academic work whiles in China," student representative Ernest Kwame Affum said on the same occasion.
 
Under the framework of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), cooperation between China and Ghana have deepened in almost all areas.Bilateral educational exchanges have been especially strengthened in recent years.
 
"Over more than 50 years, Ghana and China work closely in all areas. Ghana benefited hugely from the relation with China," Ghana's first lady Lordina Dramani Mahama told the audience.
She called on the Ghanaian students to study hard and contribute to Ghana's economy and social development.
 
"I am confident that after your study in China, what you learn can surely enable you to better serve your motherland. You can make your due contributions to the building and development of your own country, and become 'ambassadors of friendship' between our two countries," Gong said.
