Student team of the School of Architecture won the first prize

Recently, the D3 Natural Systems Competition announced the winning projects of 2015’s best international natural ecosystem. The team of the School of Architecture of HIT including students Li Zhibin, Hu Yifei, Shi Yuqing, Li Yan, Li Zhongmin and Zhang Juntong won the first prize with their project Root, which was the only one.

“Appropriate adjustments of buildings can be made with climate changes, so that the victims of the flood region do not have to give up their homes”, the designers said. They creatively put forward design ideas that let the bottom of buildings grow roots to continually make the soil solid. The functional conversion between the time of disaster and normal daily life can be achieved by the combination of residential units. Their bold and creative design concept and the beautiful imagination of the future architecture won the favor of the jury.

The D3 Natural Systems competition is an annual international design competition. It invites architects, designers, engineers, and students to collectively explore natural mechanisms from micro to macro and offers innovative and nature-based solutions for a sustainable way of life for mankind from the perspectives of architecture, urbanism, interiors, and designed objects. This year, many academic authorities from Shigeru Ban Architects and Syracuse University participated in the judging work.
