CI Spring Culture Activities Held

Spring is a time when everything come to life. Recent days has witnessed a series of cultural activities held in Albany-SWUFE Confucius Institute.It builds a deep contact with the local community and promotes Chinese culture abroad.

In March, the first stage of Chinese Culture and Economy Lectures 2016 came to an end. The lectures have been successfully held for many times since 2014. This year new lectures touching more theme are rolled out. The lectures series focus on Chinese culture and economics spanning from the ancient times to nowadays and present the audience an all-around picture of Chinese culture.


There are three lectures held in the first stage. The first lecture, On the translation of the Biography of Confucius was addressed by William H. Nienhauser. Jr, a famous sinologist in the University of Wisconsin.He investigates translation issues in the Biography of Confucius in terms of translation studies, linguistics, semantics and historiography. The second lecture, Meet the Challenges of Chinese Cities in 11st Century, was given by Dr. Lik Hang Tsui. The lecture firstly, against the background of life in Kaifeng in Song Dynasty and the accompanying problems, shows the layout of the city, social stability, environment transformation and its impact on the up and down of the city. The third lectured was delivered by Michael Zakkour, vice president of China/APAC at Tompkins International Corporation. The theme was Globalization2.0: How Alibaba, Amazaon and Chinese Consumers Reshape the World? Mr. Michael Zakkour has worked in China for over ten years on US companies’ strategic planning and consultancy work in China. His lecture is based on the newly published book of the same name and introduces the audience how Chinese consumers reshape situation of world economy and comsumption in the era of “Internet +”. The lecture series attracted altoghter over two hundred people including teachers and students in State University of Albany, New York, representatives of New York Business Confucius Institute, visiting scholars and local entrepreneurs.


On March 29th, the Spring Chinese Culture Activities of UkiM-SWUFE Confucius Institute unfolded with a paper-cutting experiencing activity. Attendees reached more than one hundrad, including Ivan K. Zarov, State Library Curator, Jovica Tasevski, deputy curator of state library, the library staff, students and teachers of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Primary School, OOU.KocoRacin Primary School and Confucius Institute, etc.

Paper-cutting is a household art in China with a long history, but it is introduced to Macedon for the first time. In the activity, Ms. Elena Damjanoska of Confucius Institute in Macedonian briefd on the culture of Chinese paper-cutting: history, technique,practical value, and application. Then CI teachers presents a paper-cutting show on sight. The audience, especially th primary students, enjoyed themselves a lot in cutting paper. Exposure to the art of paper-cutting impresses the audience with its technique, artistic value and practical value.
