A Lecture About Translation in the Global Age

Huang Youyi, Deputy Director and Chief Editor of China International Publishing Group, visited GDUFS' north campus and gave a lecture on, "Translation in the Global Age and Basic Training on Chinese- English translation".

First, Mr. Huang talked about the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters including its orgin, its various levels, and its features. Mr. Huang shared his belief that interpreters are needed in the fields of culture, economy, and diplomacy. The MTI students should not only specialize their majors, but should master the skills of translation and cultural transmission.

Mr. Huang used his own experience to analyse the translation of different texts in a consistent format. He gave a numeber of vivid examples to point out the existing problems in translation and introduced various translation methods.

At the interactive link, students enthusiastically participated. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. During this link, Mr. Huang emphasized that the art of translation is much more than just "translating words". True translation also includes the ability to translate culture.
 
The lecture was chaired by Li Ming, Vice-President of the Institute of Interpretation and Translation. GDUFS Vice President Fang Fanquan gave a memento to Mr. Huang to express the universities gratitute for his visit.
