An Introduction to ZhejiangShurenUniversity

     Zhejiang Shuren University (ZJSRU), established in 1984, is one of China’s earliest privately funded full-time universities since the 1978 national reform.
    After nearly 30 years of growth, the university now has a 34 hectare campus accommodating 16,000 full-time students. It boasts a construction area of 320,000 square meters and the library holding over 2,000,000 volumes of books. Currently, ZJSRU offers bachelor degree degrees in economics, management, liberal arts, engineering and law. The 9 schools of the university now has a total of 31 undergraduate programs, among which International Economics and Trade is labeled as a national specialty program, and some provincial key programs in Zhejiang such as Environmental Engineering, Business Management, Computer Science and Technology. In addition, ZJSRU established 26 in-house research institutes and centers, such as Research Center of China for Private Higher Education, Research Center of China for Service Economy, Ceramic Research Institute, and Super Micro and Mass Research Center.
    As a teaching and service-focused university, ZJSRU puts an extra emphasis on the compatibility of higher education with regional economy and social development. It dedicates itself to serving students, faculty and staff and communities at large, and has made great progress in academic research, faculty professional development, international education, etc.
    Taking quality teaching as its lifeline, ZJSRU is devoted to producing high-level professionals with practical skills. In fact, teaching quality has been steadily improved over the years through policies and projects such as Teaching Quality Improvement Project, Good Class Project, Internship and Training Placement Programs, and Reform on College English and Computer Literacy Teaching. The university is becoming gradually teaching-oriented and producing students of higher quality.       
    Despite a burgeoning number of college graduates in recent years across the country, more than 95% of ZJSRU graduates manage to start employment upon graduation. On the other hand, enrollment rates have also been satisfying with cutoff scores remaining above the provincial average.
    ZJSRU stays steadfast to academic research as one of its development strategy. In line withZhejiang’s socio-economic development as well as its own principles, the university clearly defined disciplinary and program goals and has since accomplished remarkable advances. ZJSRU currently has 7 key provincial programs on disciplinary for the “12th Five-Year Plan” and one key provincial research base for philosophy and social science. It has also acquired major rewards at national and provincial levels both in liberal arts and science and technology. In fact, ZJSRU has always occupied the first place for its research competitiveness among China’s privately funded universities.  
    The university has also succeeded in building up a highly competent faculty team. Faculty members and administrative staff of ZJSRU have achieved considerable career development through programs including “Training Project for One Hundred Backbone Teachers,” “Training Plan of One Thousand Industrial-Experienced Teachers,” and “Professor Training Program.” Currently, ZJSRU has over 800 full-time faculty members, 42% of whom hold a full or associate professorship, 70% of whom have PhD or master's degree, and more than 60 scholars with honors such as national or provincial Outstanding Professionals, Specialists, and Excellent Educators.
    ZJSRU actively promotes international education and encourages exchange and cooperation with international partners. At present, the university has established collaborative partnership with more than 60 overseas colleges and institutions in countries and regions across the world such asGreat Britain, Germany, USA, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Every year the university sends a number of students abroad for study, research or exchange for a purpose of talent oriented internationalization.
