The recent days has witnessed a series of cultural activities held in UkiM-SWUFE Confucius Institute. It promotes Macedonian people’s understanding of Chinese language and culture, strengthens educational and cultural cooperation and exchange between China and Macedonia, enhances the friendship between Chinese and Macedonian people.

On May 16th, the Confucius Institute, together with KT Fim&Media kicked off the Chinese Film Week in the Macedonian Spring International Film Festival. More than 100 people, including those from KT Fim&Media and Confucius Institute, and local residents attended the opening ceremony and watched the first movie.

The film festival is the first international film tour nationwide sponsored by Macedonian Governmental Film Fund. The five films provided by the Confucius Institute, including Beautiful Mother, The Lotus Latern and works from South Korea, Iran, Mexica and Portugal will be on play in ten cities of Macedonia.

In the opening ceremony, the Chinese Dean Deng Shizhong made a speech and thanked Macedonian Governmental Film Fund and KT Fim&Media for the opportunity of Chinese films into Macedonian market. He hoped that the two countries can increase their exchange in films and other cultural products to enrich their knowledge of the other’s daily life and therefore deepen their friendship. The Chinese Film Week attracted wide attention, not only from the Macedonian circles and media, but also from the Chinese media. The Xinhua News Agency reported the opening ceremony----Macedonians embrace rare opportunity to watch Chinese films.

On May 25th, Dean Deng Shizhong attended the international academic seminar themed as China: Througn the prism of global challenges, an event co-hosted by Confucius Institute of Roland University and Hungary Wehrmacht General Staff Research Center. Attendees included representatives from Hungary military and Chinese military scientific college, Confucius Institute and scholars from Germany, Russia, Poland and Hungary. Dr. Benk? Tibor, Hanguary Chief of General Staff, Prof. Mezey Barna, President of Roland University and Duan Jilong, ambassador of China’s embassy into Hungary respectively made a speech. Dean Deng Shizhong addressed on Chinese Culture—How to Deal with the Challenges of Globalization. It presents his ideal of how Chinese culture meets the challenge of globalization from cultural globalization in China, solutions to globalization issues and the role of Confucius Institute.

On May 27th, in order to celebrate the 180th anniversary and Children’s Day, the Confucius Institute and Ss. Cyril and MethodiusSchool held a grand ceremony in Skopje Military Music Hall. Andrej ZERNOVSKI, Head of Skopje central district attended the event. Other attendees included Ms. Vilma POPOVIKJ, President of Ss. Cyril and Methodius School, teachers and students from both the primary school and Confucius Institute.

To make a happy Children’s Day for the students, the Cofucius Institute teachers and students present a series of cultural activities like Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, tea performance, peaking opera facial makeups and seven-piece puzzle. Those activities popular among Chinese kids are also warmly welcomed by students there. They never missed a chance to play the game.

Ss. Cyril and Methodius School is a famous international elementary school in Macedonia and home of the first Chinese class of Confucius Institute. The elementary school has two chinese classes with more than 40 students. Most of them have been learing Chinese since the Confucius Institute was established. The children’ enthusiasim towards learning Chinese shows not only the fruitful gains of Confucius Institute but also a bright future of nurturing talents who know and love China and can serve as a bridge between China and Macedonia.
